The Single Most Important Thing We Can Teach Our Kids: Review of 7 Steps to Get Your Child Reading by Louise Park. 4 February To the Moon and Back: Celebrating 25 Years of Guess How Much I Love You. News | Book Life. 29 January Children and Reading: Great Tips. News | Events & Festivals. 27 January Calling All Harry Potter Fans. Audiobooks vs Reading: Comprehension. Reading a physical book and listening to the audiobook are two different paths that lead to the same destination. Each creates differing experiences and memories, but neither is better or worse than the other. There’s a fair amount of research on the subject of comprehension in audiobooks vs reading.

“My Hero is You” is a book written for children around the world affected by the COVID pandemic. “My Hero is You” should be read by a parent, caregiver or teacher alongside a child or a small group of children. It is not encouraged for children to read this book independently without the support of a parent, caregiver or teacher. While kids can listen on a higher level than they can read, some stories may be too complex for young listeners to follow and enjoy. There is an abundance of audio picture books and poetry to enjoy and no need to rush straight into Harry Potter. Don’t let audio books take the place of you reading aloud to your child or telling them stories.

Kids who hear a lot of language do better in school. And being read to is one of the best ways to hear language. Reading to toddlers sets the foundation for later independent reading. Reading problems can be challenging to fix when discovered in elementary school. But many reading problems can be prevented if reading starts in the toddler.   However, my research has found that of the Year 4 and Year 6 respondents at 24 schools who took part in the Western Australian Study in Children’s Book Reading, nearly three-fifths.
